Chevening English language requirement: Breakdown of scores
In order to receive a Chevening Scholarship, all applicants must demonstrate which they have fulfilled Chevening’s English language requirement by 16 July 2020. We advise all applicants to make sure they have fulfilled the English language requirement as soon as possible by either:
• Taking an English language test.
• Claiming an exemption based on the UKVI exempt categories.
That you have met the required English language level by 16 July 2020 or fail to prove that you qualify for an exemption, your application will not be successful if you fail to demonstrate.
English language tests
You are free to take tests as many times as necessary to meet Chevening’s English language requirement. Please be aware that Chevening does not pay for costs associated with English language testing. You will be responsible for booking and paying for expenses associated with these tests.
Chevening accepts English language tests from five providers:
• Academic IELTS
• Pearson PTE Academic
• TOEFL iBT
• C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English: Advanced CAE)
• Trinity ISE II (B2)
The English language test will need to have been taken from one of these providers on or after 1 2018 october. That you have booked a test date so that you can obtain the required results if you do not already have an existing eligible test certificate, it is your responsibility to ensure.
Applicants are not permitted to take pre-sessional courses to fulfil Chevening’s English language requirement. You’re going to be needed to take one of the approved English language tests until you fall under one of the exempt categories.
Applicants are not permitted to enrol on pre-sessional courses to fulfil their English that is university’s language or just about any other conditions of a university offer. Any offer from a university with a necessity to undertake a pre-sessional course will be considered conditional.
In some countries, the availability of test centres is limited, therefore we recommend you organise a test during the earliest opportunity. If there are not any English language test centres in your country, you may be asked to go to a neighbouring country to take a test. Please see your country page for further guidance.
Please be aware that the turnaround time for English language tests varies:
• IELTS results will likely be for sale in 13 days. essaywritersite.com log in
• PTE Academic results is likely to be obtainable in five business days.
• TOEFL results is going to be for sale in approximately ten days.
• C1 Advanced results are going to be for sale in a couple of weeks for computer-based tests or seven to nine weeks for paper-based tests.

Applicants who have been awarded a bachelor’s degree or higher that has been taught in full in a university located and accredited in another of the following countries are also exempt from submitting an English language test for a Chevening Scholarship*:

* The exemption from the Chevening English language requirement will not be granted for distance-learning courses or studying at the overseas campus of a university-based in an country that is exempt. As well as meeting Chevening’s English language requirement, you may also need to meet English that is certain language to qualify for your university course. Universities may only accept a particular style of test or ask for higher test that is minimum.
